A Frightfully Festive Halloween

A Frightfully Festive Halloween

Bubble, bubble, it’s no trouble – scare up those treats on the double. I’ll show you how! Maybe we all love Halloween, because, at heart, it’s a kid’s holiday for grownups – a frightfully fun way to indulge our fantasies and get goodies for doing it.

A Frightfully Festive HalloweenHalloween is the holiday where you can let your imagination go wild, not just in creating the tablescape, but in conjuring up the menu, too. Cast a spell with lit pumpkins that glitter and glow and orange napkins that jump out against a black tablecloth. Set a wicked table with bats and cats and witches – oh, my! – then transform a raven into a serving tray by balancing a platter of ghoulish goodies on its back. Create killer treats by tying individual portions of candy into beribboned bundles that masquerade as place cards. Stack bat and witch goodie buckets into a serve-yourself centerpiece, filled with oooey-gooey gummy worms and lifesaver eyeballs that will have everyone running back for more. Bone appetit!

Boo to You
These devilishly delicious party favors are a trick to make and a treat to eat. Sneak a few bundles into their midst and watch your guests shriek with delight.

A Frightfully Festive HalloweenHow to Make Halloween Candy Bundles
You’ll need:

Clear sheets of cellophane—1 sheet per guest
1 large bag orange and black Halloween candy or Halloween cookies
Black construction paper
Gold felt tip pen
Narrow black and white ribbon (Plain orange or black would work well, too.)
Paper puncher

  1. Place a handful of Halloween candy or several Halloween cookies on the middle of a sheet of cellophane.
  2. Twist the cellophane around the candy and tie the bundle with a black and white ribbon, leaving 2-3 inches of clear cellophane sticking out.
  3. Trace a bat shape onto the black paper and cut it out. (If you’re not the artistic type, look in coloring books for a simple bat shape to use as a pattern.)
  4. Print the guest’s name on the bat with the gold pen.
  5. Punch a hole at the top of the bat, thread the ribbon through the hole and tie it around the bundle.
